Year 13 Liturgy

On the first day of school this year, Year 13 were invited to gather in the Chapel to begin their school year before helping the new Year 9 cohort with their first day of school. Through prayers of intention and quiet reflection it was a time to gather and reflect on the year ahead.

Year 13 Retreat

Our Year 13 cohort began the year with a three day retreat at Raincliff Youth Camp.

Retreat offers students the opportunity to step back and reflect on their lives and plan for the year at the College.

We began our retreat with an inspiring talk from Mr. Comeau, our Principal. He talked about the theme of ‘Journey’ and how our lives can take us on many different journeys . This was followed up with a range of workshops across the two days that enabled students to reflect on their lives as well as setting goals for 2021. We were fortunate to have the support of the Marist Team, led by Father Mark Walls sm to lead us in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and the celebration of the Eucharist. We thank Father Do from Holy Family Parish who also celebrated Mass with us. It was a fantastic time and I am sure one that will be remembered for the strengthening of faith and friendship. We thank the many staff who supported and gave their time to ensure our Year 13 cohort had the best possible start to the year.

Year 9 Religious Education Classes visit the Sacred Heart Basilica

While we could not have our planned College Mass for Term 1 due to the Level 2 Covid- 19 restrictions, all our Year 9 students have visited the re-opened Sacred Heart Basilica. Students were able to learn about the history of the Basilica and look specifically at some of the wonderful stained glass windows and statues up close.

Assuming we are still in Level one, we are planning to hold College Mass on Friday 26 March, our community is most welcome to attend, we will advise further details nearer the time.

Caritas Leadership Day

On February 24 our Special Character Leaders attended and took part in the Caritas Justice Leadership Day with a number of the other Catholic secondary schools in the Diocese. The students learned about the work Caritas Aotearoa undertakes in New Zealand and the world to support Justice, Peace and Development. The students took part in workshops and listened to a panel of guest speakers talk on ‘Just Leadership’. It was an inspiring and informative day for our students.

2021 Commissioning Mass

On 18 February a number of staff traveled to Ashburton for the South Canterbury Commissioning Mass. The Mass was led by Archbishop Paul Martin at Holy Name Parish, Ashburton. It was a great celebration of all those who work in Catholic education.
