Gateway Profile - Aimee Hewitt
The careers I researched and trailed were vet nursing, bakery and beauty therapist. I did not like vet nursing and didn’t have a taster day for beauty therapy. I enjoyed the bakery a lot.
Before starting gateway this year I was very nervous as I didn’t have many ideas on what I wanted to do when I left school but that is what gateway is all about, it is there to help everyone find what they are looking for.
I ended up choosing the baking industry because I enjoy baking and would like the explore it more. I now do my work placement at the New World bakery.
The jobs involved at the New World bakery are using the bread cutter, decorating cakes/ biscuits, stock take, packaging products and cleaning up
I am completing the Skills4work Gateway Bakery Programme. I have theory work to do in the classroom at school and have practical tasks to get signed off in the workplace. The assessments I am doing count towards an apprenticeship. I am not sure what my next step will be, I plan to come back to school in the meantime.
I suggest that if you have no idea what you want to do when you leave school - take gateway, you’ll get to explore different jobs and find one you may never have heard of before.
