Roncalli Feast Day - October 11
Consult not your fears, but your hopes and dreams. Think not about your frustrations, but your unfulfilled potential. Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli - St. John XXIII
October 11 is the feast of St. John XXIII - Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli. This year we were blessed with fine weather and a spirit of joyful thanksgiving for our school community.
We began the day with a moving liturgy recalling the words of Jesus. In the reading we were reminded of how just as a shepherd knows and loves his sheep, we too should remember the value of love, loving one another just as God loves us.
We also reflected on the history of our school and listened to Roncalli’s Daily Decalogue in the many diverse languages that are spoken by students in our school.
From here students enjoyed a range of activities and concluded the day with the house tug of war. It was a wonderful celebration of our school community, the values we embody and the wonderful place we call Roncalli College.
In 1981 Sister Mary Catherwood, principal of Mercy College wrote her prayer for the future of Roncalli in the final year of Mercy College “We thank God for the opportunities so many have had to grow in faith and human qualities while they have been at Mercy College. May God, through the intercession of Our Lady of Mercy, bless and prosper all who will be associated with Roncalli College in future years.”
May we at Roncalli continue to be blessed; each and every one of us.
