Bishop Lyons 2023

Rachael Burrowes —

The annual Bishop Lyons Shield was again a wonderful example of our students talents and gifts.

The annual Bishop Lyons Shield was again a highlight for our young people in the Diocese.

A team of ten students and a number of staff traveled to Greymouth where John Paul II High School provided a weekend of fun, faith and participation.

Bishop Lyons is the annual public speaking competition for students in our Diocese. It covers a wide range of categories from Debating and Speeches (Impromptu and Prepared) to Scripture Reading and Religious Questions.

Roncalli had a very successful weekend and gained a 1st equal in Scripture Reading (Mia Daly), 2nd in Religious Questions (Annie Henderson, Thomas Lysaght, Jess Aldridge) and 3rd in Junior Prepared Speech (Lexi Gutierez). Along with points from our Debating Team we came third out of the seven secondary schools in the Diocese. It was wonderful display of support and team work from our Roncalli students.

A big thank-you to all the staff involved and to John Paul II High School for hosting a wonderful weekend. We look forward to 2024 at Marian College.
