Junior Touch Write up 2018

Bryce Caird —

On Thursday 15 November the Roncalli Junior Boys and Junior Mixed Touch teams competed at the Aoraki Junior Touch Championships, held at School Park.

The Boys team started the day with some very tough games against Waitaki Boys, Timaru Boys and Ashburton College. The team continued to improve as the day progressed, and after a close loss to Geraldine they won their final game of the day 6-3 over Mackenzie College.

The Junior Mixed team played two games each against Geraldine and Mackenzie College. They started the day well, winning comfortably over Geraldine 10-1 before losing to Mackenzie 2-1. In the second round they proved too tough for Geraldine again, winning 6-1. Geraldine then beat Mackenzie to set up what was effectively a final for the last round robin game of the day between Roncalli and Mackenzie. Roncalli started the game well, scoring early in the first half but Mackenzie struck back with a well worked try to tie the game up at halftime. Roncalli then score midway through the second spell and had to rely on some last grasp defence to hold on for a win 2-1, which gave them the title.
