South Island Secondary Schools Athletics Championships 2018

Timaru Hosts South Island Champs at the All Weather Track at Aorangi Park.

The SISS Athletics Championships were held in Timaru on 24 - 25 March at Aorangi Park All Weather Track. Twelve students represented Roncalli College. Everyone competed to their best ability and many achieving personal bests against South Islands top Secondary School athletes. Congratulations to Brittney Young who finished 3rd place in the under 19 girls 100m hurdles.

A big thank you to Richelle Cannell for managing the team and all the amazing volunteers (students and adults) who assisted during the weekend. Events like this would not happen without these people giving up their time to help officiate. Well done to all involved in what was a great weekend of athletics.

William Laing 9th 80m hurdles (15.22), 11th 200m (27.39);

Noah Oudemans 9th triple jump (8.68m), 7th javelin (21.89m);

UNDER 15 Boys - 

Caleb Houston 12th high jump (1.55m), 14th long jump (4.29m);

UNDER 16 Boys - 

Jackson Hicks-Sandri 10th 100m (12.49), 11th discus (24.91m);

UNDER 19 Boys - 

Hajie Tamorite 11th 200m (24.93);


Canterbury Interprovincial Athletics Team

Congratulations to year 9 student William Laing who was selected in the Canterbury (12 & 13 year old) Interprovincial Athletics team. The team travelled to Taranaki over Easter weekend to compete at Inglewood against other provinces from around New Zealand. William competed in the 100m, 200m, high jump, shot put and relays. Canterbury were overall winners, well done William!
