Aoraki Secondary Schools Sports Awards 2019

The 21st Annual Aoraki Secondary Schools Sports Awards was held on Friday 1 November at the Southern Trust Events Centre with Guest Speaker Hollie Woodhouse.

The evening was an opportunity to acknowledge staff, community and students’ outstanding sporting performances and successes.

Roncalli College had 39 representatives in attendance, including student finalists, parents, family and staff. This was a great reflection on the successful year Roncalli students have had in sporting achievement and representation. Thank you to the parents and families of Roncalli for your wonderful support.

Some highlights of achievements from our Winners:

Outstanding Referee (Basketball) ~ Reagan Ashley

  • Refereed at the New Zealand National Tertiary Championships in Christchurch. Awarded the Men's Quarter Final, Men’s Semi Final and Men’s Grand Final.
  • Refereed at the New Zealand Schick Secondary Schools National Championships in Palmerston North. Awarded the Men's Quarter Final, Men’s Semi Final and Women's Grand Final.
  • Referee on the New Zealand National Women’s League Panel (NZ WBC) which included Refereeing 4 Home & Away Season Games in Dunedin and also Officiating the Women's National League Tier 2 Grand Final in Auckland.
  • Refereed the Men’s Quarter-Final, Men’s Semi-Final and Women’s Grand Final at the New Zealand Basketball Under 23 National Championships in Porirua.
  • Refereed the Men's Quarter-Final, Men’s Semi-Final and Women's Grand Final at the New Zealand Basketball Under 19 National Championships in Dunedin.
  • Refereed the Women’s Quarter-Final, Men’s Semi-Final and Women’s Grand Final at the New Zealand Basketball Under 17 National Championships in Auckland.
  • Selected by Basketball New Zealand to be a Referee Trainer at the Schick Southern Cup in Christchurch.

  • Basketball New Zealand Under 17 Nationals: Played on loan for Waitaha A (Canterbury Basketball), placing 2nd at Nationals
  • Member of the South Canterbury Senior Men’s Divisional Team
  • Member of the Roncalli Senior Premier Boys Basketball Team, runners up SC Secondary Schools Senior Competition.

  • Road Race National Title (Gold Medal) 1st out of 58
  • Points Race National Title (Gold Medal) 1st out of 59

  • 1st – Overall Winner

NZ National School Track Cycling Champs (Under 16 Boys) Silver Medal

South Island Track Cycling Champs (Under 16 Boys) Gold Medal

  • 5th out of 24 in the 2000m Individual Pursuit

South Island School Road Cycling Championships

  • 1st – U16 Boys Time Trial

Ruby Anderson ~ Football

  • Made it into the New Zealand Under 20 Women's identifications camp
  • Member of the Dunedin Tech Women’s Football Team. Played in the Kate Sheppard Cup Final, Winners 2019
  • Made it into the Southern United National Women’s Team
  • Selected and named in the U17 South Canterbury Girls team
  • Won the Women’s first division league in Dunedin

Alex Kelliher ~ Golf

  • NZ Eagles: 19th/38 in NZ. Under 17 Eagles at Christchurch (Alex aged 14).
  • NZ Under 17: 29th. NZ Under 17 Champs at Cromwell (aged 15)
  • NZ Under 19: 73rd/104. NZ Under 19 Champs at Cromwell (aged 15)
  • 10th/37: South Island Under 17 Champs
  • 24th/90: South Island Under 19 at Harewood
  • 1st/20: Aoraki Secondary Schools Golf Champs at Levels Timaru
  • National Junior Eagles in Hamilton. 4th place Individual. 5th place Aorangi team.
