Celebrating NZ Music Month
Our students enjoyed taking part in a range of musical performances during May and singing NZ songs selected by our Arts Leaders at RonCAREoke.
The inaugural South Canterbury-Waitaki Music Exchange was hosted at Waitaki Girls' High School and was an opportunity for over 60 students from 10 high schools to come together to rehearse and perform as a massed ensemble for the community. This included 12 Roncalli students. Thanks to Tim Bower for organising the event and Sophie Pilbrow for hosting us.
The Timaru regional final of Smokefree Rockquest saw the largest number of entries in over a decade with 28 acts representing a range of schools. Roncalli were represented by three bands and two solo acts . Hayden James was awarded a musicianship award as drummer in 'Eriff'. Stevie Wallace was awarded second place in the Solo/Duo Category and won the Apra Song Lyric award for her song 'The Black Dog'.
A group of students were also invited to perform at Waimataitai Kura as part of their NZ Music Month celebrations and enjoyed rocking out on a Friday afternoon.
