Gateway Profile - Flynn Perkin

Marian Mehrtens —

I didn't really know what I was going to do before I started Gateway this year. I researched a few different careers and signed on to do the SEED's program at Countdown.

I spent five Thursdays during Term 2 doing work experience at Countdown.  During my placement I spent my time in 4 different departments in the store, those being Produce, Deli, Customer Service and Butchery, on my last day I spent time helping with odd jobs around the store. Each one had different jobs I needed to do to complete them, such as moving boxes full of fruit around, mixing salads together, removing outdated products from the shelves and efficiently using the wrapping machine for the meat. Overall, it was quite fun being able to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes at supermarkets such as Countdown and I'm glad to have been there for Gateway through the SEEDS Program.  During my placement I completed Service IQ unit standards that count towards a Retail Customer Service Award which is a mini qualification.

My plans for next year are not completely set in stone just yet, but I will probably be looking at getting a full time job or going to Ara.
