The Bishop Lyons Shield competition was established in 1945

This past weekend Roncalli College competed for the Bishop Lyons Shield at St Thomas of Canterbury College in Christchurch. 

It was a great display of Catholicism at its finest as seven schools came together competing in a variety of speaking events. 

Notable mentions go to Neve Bruin who gained 2nd in the Junior Prepared Speech, Rachel Waldron who gained 4th placing in Scripture Reading and our Religious Questions team consisting of Emilea Tate, Ainemaria Burrell and Krishna Shridar who were also awarded 4th place. Our debate team also scored very high points in the competition. 

The entire competition was extremely close and no one school took the clear lead until the final event. The eventual winners for the Bishop Lyons Shield for 2021 was awarded to Marian College. 

Next year the competition will be held in Greymouth hosted by John Paul lI High School. It was a great weekend where the team got to meet new people, make great memories and will be a weekend we will remember.
