Cricket Success

Sports Department —

Congratulations to year 13 student Ben Davenport and past pupil Ed Heenan on their recent cricket success

Ben Davenport

Following the Canterbury Regional Cricket Tournament where he was captain of the South Canterbury Under 17 team, Ben Davenport was selected for the Canterbury Under 17 team.  As the only South Canterbury player selected, this was a great achievement.  A two day training camp and warm up games against Otago in early January were followed by the National tournament held at Lincoln on the 17-24 January where the team came up against the best age group cricketers in NZ. Canterbury had a convincing win against Otago during the week and tight tussles against both Northern Districts and Wellington. Ben thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing at this level and gained an insight into what is needed to further progress his cricket game. He looks forward to the remainder of the season with the Roncalli First XI and his cricket scholarship across to Seaford College in the UK which he leaves for in April. Congratulations Ben.

Edward Heenan

Congratulations to Ed Heenan on bringing up the significant milestone of 50 games for Roncalli First XI on Saturday 26 January. This is a massive achievement and one you should be very proud of Ed. Since your debut in October 2015, your contribution to the team on and off the field as a dogged & determined opening batsman, vocal, hard working fieldsman and ultimate team member has been truly outstanding. Well done Ed.
