Before I started Gateway this year I was a little bit nervous because I had never been in a real workplace environment before. The careers I researched were chef, baker and cafe worker, however I was most determined that I wanted to be a chef.

I had 2 taster days, one at Zest and the other at The Oxford.  Knowing that I was determined to be a chef I chose The Oxford as my work placement.  The job involves various tasks in the kitchen, whether it be doing prep work, cooking somebody's meal or doing dishes.   I am working on cookery unit standards through Service IQ; I have theory to do in my Gateway class at school and practical tasks that get signed off in the workplace by a qualified chef.   I really enjoy the practical on-job learning and have learnt a lot already.
