Keiran Johnson - Gateway Profile

Marian Mehrtens —

Keiran is on track to complete the MITO StartUp Programme with a Level 2 Automotive Micro-credential and Level 3 Automotive Engineering Micro-credential giving him a head start with 41 credits towards a future apprenticeship qualification.

When I entered gateway I had a broad spectrum of jobs that I wanted to trial, those being Heavy Diesel Mechanic, Agri Manager, and Arborist. Of those taster days, the one that ticked all my boxes was Heavy Diesel. I now have a placement at Heavy Diesel Parts & Services every Wednesday. Some of the work that is involved with being a Diesel Technician is servicing heavy vehicles, engine maintenance/repairs, and making sure that the vehicle is roadworthy.

I am registered with the Motor Industry Training Organisation (MITO). There is a mix of theory units that are completed online and practical units completed at your workplace which count towards a micro-credential which counts towards an apprenticeship. My plan for next year is to hopefully get an apprenticeship as a Heavy Diesel Technician and grow my skills in the career.
