Mercy Day 2022

On 24 September every year, the Sisters of Mercy and those associated with the Mercy Charism celebrate Mercy Day. This is the day on which Catherine McAuley first opened the House of Mercy in Ireland and dedicated it to Our Lady of Mercy. This is a day to celebrate all the wonderful work Sisters of Mercy and their friends do around the world.

Mercy College, and prior to that Sacred Heart Girls College stood on the grounds where Roncalli is now. The Sisters of Mercy have played a pivotal role in our College’s history and we thank them for their years of service. When Roncalli College was formed in 1982, McAuley House was kept as one of the four houses in recognition of Catherine McAuley.

This morning staff gathered for a ‘Good Cup of Tea’ at interval to celebrate and recognise our connection to the Sisters of Mercy. Just before Catherine McAuley passed away she instructed the Sisters to have a good cup of tea together in the community room. Between 24 September and 12 December (the Season of Mercy), Mercy groups all over the world are invited to join an international 'Good Cup of Tea' event.

This morning at assembly our Special Character Leaders led the College in a Mercy Prayer and wished McAuley House a very happy day.

Prayer was at the heart of everything Catherine McAuley did.
