October - The month of the Rosary

The month of October is dedicated to the Rosary, one of the best known Catholic devotions. The best way to celebrate the month is, of course, to pray the Rosary.

This week there was the opportunity for all interested students and staff to meet in the chapel to pray one decade of the rosary at the start of lunch. Students in Year 9 and 10 also learned about the Rosary during Religious Education classes.

Te Ara a Maria Hikoi

The NZ Bishops have commissioned a painting to rededicate Aotearoa to Mary Mother of God Assumed into Heaven.

A hikoi of the painting is beginning in our diocese from Sunday 24th October. It will be in the Basilica from Sunday 24th October.

The Bishops wanted a depiction of Mary that connects her to Aotearoa. The piece challenges us to see her as a woman of incredible strength and the place she holds in our hearts and our community today. The artwork aims to respect our different cultures and backgrounds. The painting captures details which are unique to our country and Catholic identity. It asks us to celebrate the things we share in our community and to learn more about our different worlds.

For more information as well as a timetable of the painting in the Timaru area please visit the following website.
