Employers Expo

Lou Heenan —

Year 11 students attended the local Employers Expo in Temuka on Monday 26 August.

On Monday 26 August all of our Year 11 students travelled out to Temuka to attend the local Employers Expo. Twenty three employers gave up their time to attend this event to inform and inspire students about what opportunities are available locally in the job market.  The event is run along the lines of "speed dating", where students sit at tables and every seven minutes they get to hear from a different employer.  Employers ranged from those in the legal profession, to transport and logistics to food processing and many more in between. This year students were also able to hear first hand from young students who have either stayed locally to work or who have gone away to study and then returned to the region. Ex-pupils Caitlin Davenport and Kate Gebbie were two of the students that spoke at the event.  Students found out about businesses they didn't know existed, found out about jobs they were interested in and also jobs they didn't want to do.
