Gateway Profile - Matthew Laws
My work placement is with Murray Brown Electrical each Wednesday where I go around with one of the workers for the day and help them on whatever job they might be doing.
Before starting gateway the main careers I was interested in were electrician, building and mechanics. After some research I decided to do my three taster days on electrician, automotive technician and automotive electrician. In the end I decided to go with electrical work because it was the one I enjoyed the most from my taster days. My work experience usually involves installing wall sockets and switches, and also routing wires or lights.
The ITO I am registered with is Skills Organisation and I have been working through written assessments all about safety and the fundamentals of electrical work. Once I have finished an assessment it gets sent away for marking and then I will hear if I have achieved or will need to resit. All assessments reward me with credits towards my NCEA.
