Year 13 Retreat

Coni Silva, Rosa Heenan, Kathryn Cody, Rian Murphy —

A great opportunity for everyone and is something we will cherish for the rest of the year and beyond

From the 11th till the 13th of February, the Year 13 cohort travelled to Raincliff Youth Camp. Over the three days we participated in various activities such as group energizers, team building, and getting to know each other. We were also privileged to have a special guest come and speak to us about accepting us for who we are. Aroha Andrews told us about her experience being a burns survivor and what obstacles she went through. She told us that you don't have to live up to societal expectations but instead be the person you were created to be. Authentically you.

We had the opportunity to have private support talks with the Marist Team. This was very helpful for most students as it opened our eyes to the opportunities we have for the future and was a good way to share what struggles we may be experiencing.

At the start of the retreat we were given jars with our names on them. Over the time we were there, we were given the chance to write positive affirmations or memories about our peers. We learnt that we are not alone and we will always have someone to talk to.

In the end, we all became closer as a cohort and learned more about each other. This was a great opportunity for everyone and is something we will cherish for the rest of the year and beyond.
