‘We must have the spirit of Mary, humble and hidden.’ Father Jean Claude Colin Founder of the Society of Mary

Rachael Burrowes —

On Holy Thursday the College gathered to reflect on the Easter story with a moving Easter Liturgy that reflected on the last moments of Jesus’ life. We hope that the hope of the Easter message was reflected in the student-led Easter Liturgy.

Over the weekend students gathered to discuss their roles and responsibilities as well as participating in some activities in and around Timaru. The weekend concluded with Mass in the College chapel with beautiful singing from the students of Marist College, Auckland. Following Mass a formal dinner was held in the backdrop of the beautiful Sacred Heart Basilica.

All the visiting students and principals joined our Roncalli assembly on Monday morning and were introduced to the College.

It was awesome to see such young and enthusiastic leaders in our Catholic schools show their commitment to the Marist charism.

Special thanks must go to the staff of Roncalli College for their support of the Forum, in particular Carolyn Fuller for her organisation of the food and dinner. We cannot wait to host another Forum and welcome our Marist Network back to Roncalli.

Cyclone Gabrielle Fundraising

Many thanks to all who donated so generously to the Bishop Michael Gielen fundraising appeal for those affected by Cyclone Gabrielle. Over the term we raised $1174.90. As our Mercy founder Catherine McAuley said “We should be shining lamps, giving light to all around us”. A special thanks to our Special Character leaders for leading this initiative and the staff who supported.

NET visit Roncalli College

Roncalli were lucky to have NET visit the College this week. NET stands for National Evangelisation Team, a group of five young people who are based in our Diocese for 2023. They spent time leading fun faith based activities that encouraged students to think about their faith and reflect on their journey of faith. We thank the Team and Holy Family Parish for supporting their visit to Roncalli College, Sacred Heart Primary and St Joseph’s this week.

The team will continue to be with our community this weekend. There will be a youth Mass at 5.00 on Sunday with food and activities to follow in the Parish Centre from 6pm. All young students are invited to participate in our youth Mass with games to follow led by Roncalli College students and the NET team.
