“The proof of love is deed” Catherine McAuley, founder of the Sisters of Mercy
Celebrate the Season of Mercy
The Mercy charism continues to flourish and be remembered at Roncalli. In 1936 when the Sisters of Mercy came to Timaru after the departure of the Sacre Coeur sisters they left a tradition which we still celebrate today.
Next week we will remember and celebrate the life of Venerable Catherine McAuley and the Mercy Charism.
Students next week will be encouraged to bring a cup to Religious Education classes and celebrate a ‘Good Cup of Tea’ with their classmates and teacher.
Good Cup of Tea Day kick starts the season of Mercy. Catherine McAuley instructed her sisters to gather with a cup of tea to support one another following her death.
Hospitality and support for one another is key to the Mercy charism and we hope this is just one way in which we can remember Venerable Catherine McAuley and the Sisters of Mercy.
Special Character Week October 9th-October 13th.
Looking ahead to Term 4 we have a number of celebrations, beginning with Special Character Week in Week 1.
From Monday October 9th until Friday October 13th there will be a week of faith based activities and competitions to celebrate Roncalli College.
