Smokefree Rockquest 2021

Nikki Hall —

Roncalli students this year competed as duo 'Beyond Rhodes' and four-piece band 'Strikadonia'

These two groups competed on stage with 15 others from across Mid and South Canterbury and North Otago on Saturday 26 June at Craighead Diocesan School for Girls.

For our six students it was their first time performing at this event. 'Beyond Rhodes' (Mya George & Grace Coe) were first to perform on the night with their song 'Sign'.

'Strikadonia' (Alexi Cook, Tamia Barradas, Katie Moginie, Samantha Robb) featured in the second half of the show in the 'Band' category with their songs 'Oompity' and 'Blasphemous'.

Prior to the event Strikadonia entertained Roncalli College students at lunchtime as a 'warm up' to the event and perfomed at a Rock Showcase concert Opihi College.

St Kevin's band ,'The Pills', and Waitaki Girls' student, Aaliyah O'Brien, took home the two top prizes this year. While Roncalli students didn't take home any of the awards this time, they came away inspired with what they could start working on for next year's contest.
