Evolocity - Engineering Class Project Based Learning: Electric kart/bike design and build.

Guy Sutherland —

We are looking for Mentors and sponsors for the teams that are undertaking EVOLOCITY this year.

Evolocity is about fast forwarding that future. It’s about stimulating innovation and growing awareness of the advantages of electric transport in a sector which may be the global growth sector of the 21st Century.

Teams are equipped with an electric bike component kit. During the course of the year they design & build their own electric vehicles.

At the end of the year, on the 4th November, students will take their vehicles to a motorsport park for some fun competitions.

This year we have 4 teams entered:

- EVSpeed:

Tobias Overbeeke, Max Hunt, Sean Lara, and Sam Cronin

- LightSpeed:

Hunter Seguin, Riley McKibben, John Liu, Bailey Gibson

- OMBM:

Ollie Kirk, Marz Lopez, Brendan Phillips, and Matthew Joubert

- Shake n' Bake:

Thomas Lysaght, Zac Davis, and Archie Jones

Each team needs to purchase a $300 component kit (batteries, controller, throttle, braking system, wiring system) and then source materials to design their cart or bike to the specifications. Images below show some example karts from last years competition. Up-cycling is the key!

Head to: www.evolocity.co.nz for more information and contact Mr Sutherland at g.sutherland@roncalli.school.nz if you are interested in mentoring and/or sponsoring a team.
