Face masks mandatory on public transport

Rose Struthers —

This applies to Timaru Metro buses, not the ASTN rural School buses, this will be updated as advice is received from the government

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern has announced that it will be mandatory from Monday, August 31, for members of the public to wear face coverings on public transport when in alert level 2 and above.

How to correctly and safely wear a mask

The Ministry of Health has shared guidance around correct face mask use.

Here’s its advice for how to safely put on a mask:

  1. Make sure the mask is clean, dry and not damaged.
  2. Wash and dry your hands before putting on the mask.
  3. Place the mask over your nose and mouth and secure it. It should fit snugly and fully cover your nose, mouth and chin. There should be no gaps around the mask and your face, and you should be able to breathe easily.
  4. Wash your hands again.
