May the month of Mary - ANZAC day - Year 12 Living Social Justice Seminars

Mary is a beautiful, beloved, essential and pervasive figure in Christian life and in the Church’s calendar. She has been since the early days of the Church. Her feasts are as varied as the cultures of the world, with each having special traditions and customs.Tuesday 24 May is the feast day of Our Lady Help of Christians. We observe it here in Aotearoa as a memorial.

We also recognise Mother’s Day this weekend and thank all the wonderful women in our lives for the work, love and care they show.

ANZAC Day

ANZAC day is a national holiday that commemorates the landings of Australian and New Zealand soldiers at Gallipoli in 1915. It has since grown and become a day where the service and sacrifice of many people over many wars are acknowledged.

Our reflection on the first day of the term spoke to these virtues exemplified perfectly in the sacrifice of Jesus who gave his life for all humanity.

At our first College assembly this week we gathered to remember all those who have sacrificed so much, in particular to remember the names of those on the roll of honour in the Basilica.

Our Special Character Leaders read the Ode to Remembrance and the whole school stood while The Last Post was played. We thank our leaders and the entire college for the respect shown at this assembly.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them
