Lou Heenan —

Students should still continue planning for next year even if they can't attend Open Days at Tertiary Institutions as most institutions are available online for help and guidance. Job seeker tools like having a current CV can also be started and updated during this time.

Update regarding Tertiary Institutions

Some of the Tertiary Institutions have made the decision to cancel their Open Day's this year and instead hold these day's as a virtual event instead. Please check the website for each institution to get the most up to date information regarding whether an Open Day is still going ahead or whether it is being replace with a virtual event. We will also advertise these events on the College Facebook page.

Students should continue planning to apply for scholarships at Tertiary Institutions as this is an online process. Most scholarships open between the end of May and start of June and students just need to check the scholarships page at each institution for details on how to apply. The majority of these scholarships close around 15 August.

Applications for Halls of Residence will at this stage still open on 1 August and close around the end of September. Once again this is an online application process and students will need to check the different institution's websites for more details.

Year 13 students have had the opportunity over the past 2 weeks to join online meetings with the universities and polytechnics so they have been able to see the different Liaison people face to face. It is hoped that these Liaison people will be able to come back into the College towards the end of Term 3 to assist the students with their course selection. All of the Liaison people are more than happy to talk to students at any time if they have any concerns.

CV's and Cover Letters

I am more than happy to help any student who is in the process of writing their CV or a cover letter. They do not need to wait to apply for a job before they begin their CV - if it is completed and saved then when they do apply for a job the process if much easier. Writing a CV also helps students applying for courses, scholarships, gap year applications etc as it forces them to focus on what skills they have, their achievements and their interests.
