Roncalli Student Success at the South Canterbury Cricket Awards

Congratulations to Lleyton Phillips, Ben Davenport and Toby Scannell on their success at the South Canterbury Cricket Awards recently.

LJ GRANT TROPHY: Young Player of the Year:

Ben Davenport – has scored 953 runs in all forms of cricket this season, including 2 x 100’s (136 off 82 balls and 116 off c 84 balls) and 6 x 50’s inc 59 n.o off 42 balls for Canty Development tri-series team. Has played Roncalli 1st XI, U17 Canty Development Tri-Series U17, South Canty U17 (vice captain) and South Canty Senior Club Cricket for Celtic this season.

GRAEME BLANCHARD MEMORIAL TROPHY: For a youth cricketer who displays an excellent attitude on and off the field for fair play, a team player who inspires the spirit of cricket and has outstanding work ethics.

Ben Davenport – Scored 953 runs in all forms of cricket this season, included 2 centuries. Ben always gives 100% in effort and attitude – a quiet lad who leads by example, is always well mannered and friendly. Ben works hard on his game and impressed at the Canterbury U17 Tri series tournament in January. He is focused on selection for the Canterbury U17 team next season. Ben has had a tremendous season and has made some big runs for club and province. His drive and dedication are very evident when he steps onto the field, but he also has a great attitude and is well respected by his peers. A very worthy recipient of this prestigious award.

NIXON TROPHY: for Best Fourth Grade Player:

Toby Scannell – scored 540 runs at 25 including two centuries

ERNIE AITCHESON: Fair Play award on and off the field for Youth Cricketer:

Lleyton Phillips – Lleyton has a great attitude both on and off the field, he trains hard and is always seeking advice on his performance from his coaches. He is always willing to help out at practices and pre match warm-ups and is polite and well mannered. He plays the game with a smile on his face and respects his fellow players and officials. He is a very deserving winner of this award.
