Volunteering at Roncalli

Yoshika Ota —

We are proud of our International students providing service to others

On Tuesday, 16 June, myself and three other Roncalli College students (Saki, Yui and Mami) volunteered at the Timaru Girls’ Brigade Fun Night. This was the first night for Girls’ Brigade since lockdown and the theme of the fun evening was ‘animals’.

We showed the girls (aged from 5 year ~ 17 years old) how to make origami. We taught origami: Kabuto(hat), Turu(bird) and Touchin(Candle).

We enjoyed fish and chips before giving a powerpoint presentation about Japanese animals. The girls were surprised by some of the Japanese animals and thought they looked cute.

We enjoyed sharing our Japanese culture through origami, talking with the children and our powerpoint on Japanese animals that are different to New Zealand animals. It was a good time for us.
