Swimming NZ had their challenges running this meet as it normally be held in Auckland. The meet was moved to Hamilton with only a few weeks to go, when it was clear that Auckland would still be in Level 2 lock down. They had initially thought they could accommodate the Auckland swimmers, but with a week to go, any swimmers from the Auckland were pulled from the programme.

For our Roncalli swimmers, this was the first opportunity to swim at the national level since this time last year. All National events earlier in the year were cancelled due to Covid-19.

Our only swimmer at this meet was Matthew Gray. Matthew swam well in 5 events over the 5 day meet and attained 4 top 10 placings in his 17-18 year old age group. His best performance earnt him a 4th place in the 200m breaststroke. Congratulations Matthew.

Luka Foy also qualified to swim, however chose not to compete because of the Covid risk.

Matthew and Luka were also scheduled to swim NZ Secondary School Champs in Hamilton back in August. That event was postponed and the new dates did not work for them.

We are looking forward to 2021!
