I am registered with BCITO (Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation) I have assessments to complete throughout the year which count towards NCEA and also count towards a future apprenticeship qualification

I wanted to do Gateway at the end of year 11. I liked the idea of going out and getting some work experience in a work environment. At the start of the year I was researching building, crop farming and plastering and I selected building. I ended up doing a taster day with Cooper Building and wanted to try out some different companies so I went to Shore Construction and enjoyed it. I have placement with Shore Construction and have done about 7 days with them, I do a range of different stuff on the work site such as working with reinforcing bar, framing, insulation and laying mesh.  Richard Geary from BCITO comes and checks up on me to see how I'm going with the book work and the practical work experience; the units count towards a future qualification, apprenticeship, NZ Certificate. I am thinking about leaving school at the end of the year and would like to get an apprenticeship
