Plumber Drainlayer

After researching careers in Gateway I trialed taster days with Nolan Building, Hardie Electrical and Breen Plumbing.  I chose plumbing and drain laying as my placement and attend Breen Plumbing every Wednesday.  Some of the things we do includes pre piping houses, putting flashes up, gas changeovers and fitting off, re-roofing houses and drainage on industrial and public places.  Most days I go on my work placement the workplace manager checks on me and sees how everything is going

I am registered with Skills Organisation which is the Industry Training Organisation (ITO) that looks after plumbing, there are assessments and workbooks to do in the classroom and also practical work that is signed off by my workplace supervisor.  The credits count towards an apprenticeship qualification and also towards NCEA  Level 2.  I would like to get a plumbing  apprenticeship when I leave school.

My advice to future Gateway students is to give it your all even if its teachers only day at school turn up at work to show them that you are determined and wanting the job/apprenticeship or even just the experience, give it your all and be the best, well mannered person you can.
