Cricket Exchange

Connaire Roughan —

Roncalli College hosted the annual cricket exchange with St Kevin's College.

The 1st X1 played its annual game v St Kevin’s at Celtic Sports Ground on 19 of February. This year the fixture was a 40 over match due to scheduling issues.

Batting first, Roncalli openers Edward Heenan and Toby Scannell got off to a flier with an unbeaten opening partnership of 186 – Toby retired at 101 not out, Edward being dismissed a few overs later on 85. Roncalli went on to post 273 for 8 in their 40 overs.

In reply Roncalli opening bowler Ben Thomson started strongly capturing the first 3 wickets. An early drinks break was taken due to rain with St Kevin’s 63 for 3 after 17 overs.

Unfortunately the game wasn’t able to be resumed, ending in a draw although Roncalli were very much in the dominant position.

The game capped off a series of top individual performances over the season thus far – notably Ben Davenport having scored two centuries and five wicket bags for Ben Thomson, Nick Goodwin and Benjamin Corry.
