How much time is your teen spending on digital devices?
With the proliferation of technology, many of our young people are spending a disproportionate amount of time on screens. This can lead to all sorts of problems such as obesity, gaming addiction, lack of sleep, lack of human interaction, access to pornography and inappropriate use of social media.
I notice increasingly that some students arrive at school looking as if they have been up half the night. And in many cases, it is a result of spending too much time in their room, unsupervised, and on a device late at night.
This has a detrimental effect on students for obvious reasons and impacts on their learning.
I ask parents/caregivers to please discuss appropriate use of technology with their teen. This involves setting clear and healthy boundaries. I also recommend that devices be kept out of bedrooms at night time when students should be sleeping.
