My thoughts before starting Gateway this year was one of excitement to see what opportunities were available.  I tried three different taster days, my first one was going to PGG Wrightson I helped with stocktaking, customer service and velvet checking. Then I went to Timaru Hospital Sterilisation Unit to see what a Sterilising Technicians job involved. I got to prepare equipment before it goes through a big sterilising machine, I found that really interesting.  My third taster day was at Karaka Learning Centre where I interacted with the children, I really enjoyed it and found it really rewarding.  I selected Early Childhood as my industry.  My work placement is with Karaka Learning Centre.

Early Childhood involves interacting with children, teaching them new skills and helping them with their needs. Some things I do are:  baking with the children, reading them stories and drawing with them.  I am currently doing a course at Ara which means I attend twice a term to meet with my tutor and go over the assessments I have to complete. The unit I am doing at the moment is Demonstrate Knowledge of Promoting the Health and Well Being of Children in an ECE Service.   Next year I intend to study a Level 3 Early Childhood Course at Ara Institute.
