Jose Zandbergen —

Congratulations to our Roncalli 2018 Colts team, Liam Cotter, Ben Davenport and Mr Hinton who celebrated success at the SC Cricket Awards on Thursday evening 4 April 2019.

Roncalli College were presented as the winners of the Colts grade for the 2018 season. Well done and congratulations to all the boys who played in the Colts team during the 2018 season.

SCCUA GRAEME LOWRIE SPIRIT OF CRICKET AWARD for the senior cricketer who epitomizes the way the game should be played: Decided by Umpire

Liam Cotter for sportsmanship in the Roncalli v TBHS 1st XI match when he quickly told the official umpires the ball hadn’t carried to him in gully for a catch when many were unsure.

'Winner under 17 Representative Player of the year'.

Ben Davenport - his representative highlights included captaining the South Canterbury under 17 team, with an impressive 53 against a strong Canterbury Country team and selection in the Canterbury under 17 team.

Ben also played for South Canterbury Emerging players.

His season batting totaled 782 runs (7x50's) across all teams played for 1st XI, South Canterbury, Canterbury and Celtic Seniors.

ALLAN EDGINTON TROPHY for Sports Personality of the year:

Mr Craig Hinton – Craig retired this season from SC Representative team after 15 years in the side. One of the good guys around the traps and you never hear a bad word about him. He capped off his rep career as the leading bowler for SC, and last season featured in the SC Record 10th wicket partnership. Always available to come and help train bowlers at mid-winter practices or come to rep team trainings to help. He has captained Star for the last three seasons as well as being on their committee, and helping organise their teams.

This season he finished a long senior rep career as the leading bowler with 11 wickets at 22 best of 4-70 in his final match.

He played 68 matches for SC, 42 Hawke Cup, 24 one day and captained the side in two T20 matches against Canterbury A and Canterbury Country in the Mid Canterbury 150th anniversary tournament. He bowled nearly 1000 overs (927.4) and took 134 wickets at an economy rate of 3.2 including 5 five wicket bags with a best of 6-71 and also as a dogged No 11 adding a record unbeaten partnership for the 10th wicket of 122 last season with Dinesh de Silva scoring 24no but batting for 84 balls.

He has been a leader in the men’s game for many years, whether club or rep, at practices, on trips away as a driver, player and member of senior leadership team, and importantly brings the best values in a person to all his cricket and is a fitting winner of the Personality of the Year award.

Mr Hinton was also awarded:

Senior Rep Bowler of the Year ~

11 wickets at 22 best of 4-70 in his final match.
