Our music students started the month participating in a two-day workshop funded by the NZ Music Commission to develop their songwriting and group performance skills and concluded with a performance at Sacred Heart Primary

Jed Parsons and Hera Sings (Hera Hjartardóttir) were our two mentors. They travelled down to work with students from four South Canterbury high schools. They inspired us with tips and tricks on how we could start creating our songs and shared their experience of working in the music industry. 

By the end of the first day students were performing their original songs for each other and some of the students were inspired to enter the Smokefree Rockquest contest. 

At the end of the month our woodwind ensemble directed by Tim Bower and four singers entertained the students at Sacred Heart Primary School.
