Rotary Profile - Craig Murphy, Assistant Governor

Craig Murphy, Assistant Governor —

Craig Murphy is the Assistant Governor for Cluster 3, comprising of Rangiora, Belfast-Kaiapoi, Bishopdale-Burnside, Avon-Otakaro and Papanui Rotary. Here is his profile in his own words.

I retired in 2003 after 30 years working for a major oil company – both within New Zealand and overseas. Living on a larger life style block kept me occupied but not busy. I decided to look into Rotary having been involved with both Jaycees and Lions at earlier stages in my career. Having visited several clubs I decided on joining Riccarton Rotary for two reasons – firstly the lunchtime meeting suited me best and secondly I was attracted to their weekly commitment to the Riccarton Sunday Market.

In my 11 years as a Riccarton Rotarian I have been Sergeant, Chair of the Youth Committee, President, Chair of the Membership Committee and currently a Trustee of The Riccarton Youth Trust and Chair of The Riccarton Rotary Charitable Trust. At District level I am currently involved with the Vocational Training Team, the District Grants Committee and in my second year as an Assistant to the District Governor.

There are five successful clubs within my cluster. The objective is to have them working in alignment with the goals established by the District Governor, to have them consider projects on which they can work collaboratively and to help them should help be necessary.

I am married to Shirley, an active member of the Riccarton Inner Wheel. We have two grown up daughters, who both run their own businesses, and one grand-daughter who thankfully is here in Christchurch.
