Holding Tight to our Rotary Values

Gary Hopkinson, District Governor —

A message from our District Governor, Gary Hopkinson.

The spread of Covid-19 across the world has exposed the fragility of humanity and, for us as Rotarians, it is a time to rise to the challenge.

Our Rotary members across District 9970 have served their time in service to others both locally and around the world. More recently we lent a helping hand to those affected by the Christchurch earthquake and the Mosque attacks.

The strength of Rotary is its people and the greater international family of Rotary.

Now, we ourselves are vulnerable to a more pressing humanitarian challenge - the spread of Covid-19! Our social responsibility to our members acknowledges the need to suspend traditional meetings where we gather together. We need to take the time to support and protect our families, our friends, our neighbours and our fellow Rotarians who are vulnerable to the virus.

My call is for us all to remain connected and to continue with the work of Rotary whether by phone, social media, or a simple note in the letterbox. Clubs should continue to distribute their newsletters to maintain a vital link to Rotary.

As your District Governor Iam also a Rotarian and I feel the obligation to support our members in this time of need and to continue our service in the name of Rotary.

I look forward to receiving your thoughts, suggestions and stories on upholding the values of Rotary in this time of need. A file is being set up at the moment on the Oceania website to publish your stories. I will come back to you again within the next few days to give you the links to the site and the new zoom licence.

Yours sincerely in Rotary
Gary
