District Youth Programmes

Tony Blackler, District Youth Chair —

In light of Covid-19, here is an update from Rotary Youth Exchange (RYE), Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA), Healthy Heroes and Rotary Youth Drive Awareness (RYDA).

Rotary Youth Exchange (Chair – Shona Dodd)

Current Students:
Our current outbound student is remaining in Brazil as agreed with the student’s parents.

Consideration for current inbound – we are speaking with the host club to work through what is required if she is unable to go home in June/July

Planning for next rotation of students

Inbound: There will be no students coming into the district from any country in June/July 2020, a decision which is supported by all New Zealand Youth Exchange Chairs.

Outbound: A decision will be made at the July meeting on whether to proceed with out outbound students in January 2021.

Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (Chair - Kingsley Clark)

Planning will continue for the 2021 RYLA, scheduled for the week of 20 - 25 January 2021 at College House. We will keep you updated.

Healthy Heroes (Chair - Susan Haye)

The programme is on hold at present. Once schools are back we will engage with the one school actively running the Healthy Heroes programme and those schools that were expressing an interest. It will most likely be 2021 before the programme is introduced to schools completely new to the programme.

Rotary Youth Drive Awareness (Chair - Pat Clay)

This programme is likely to be on hold until schools are in a position to work that into their curriculum after they are settled into late 2020 or 2021.
