Club Profile - Rolleston Rotary

Rotary District 9970 —

Rolleston Rotary has been officially operating for a year but it has already begun to make it’s mark on the local Selwyn District and the town.

Rolleston has approximately 24,000 residence and is growing quickly. Many families relocated post-earthquake 2011 and since then the town has attracted young families and those wanting new homes and businesses have relocated in the area.

What an opportunity for Rotary ! It took a group of like-minded people supported by the Club development & public image teams from the district and the Lincoln Rotary club, to form this dynamic club which meets fortnightly @ 7pm in the Selwyn District Council Staff Cafeteria.

They began by contacting local businesses, organisations and the locals and surveyed their needs before embarking on any projects. These were then discussed, researched and planned working as a whole group often over a glass of wine and a plate of home baking. As a result, they have been very busy often working with Lincoln Rotary at Motorfest, Children’s Day, the Rolleston Fireworks which attracts 15,000 people, Halloween night, local schools and play centres with clean-ups and support learning days to name a few and more recently working with the local Lions on Toot for Tucker for the second time. They have attracted $15,000 sponsorship from a local housing developer to plan an event for the locals which is now postponed due to COVID but will go ahead in summer -fingers crossed !

Now they are in the position where the locals know them and come to them to ask for support and advice from this diverse and skilled group of people. If you know of anyone who has recently moved to Rolleston and has some time and wants to help in the community then get in contact with President Amanda van der Kley mobile: 027 3039619 for more information.
