Lifetime Contribution to Volunteering Award—Jim McMurdo

Gordon Malcolm —

The Rotary Club of Atherton celebrate this wonderful milestone with Jim.

At its 60th Anniversary event in November, The Cancer Council Queensland presented PP Jim McMurdo with his 50 years of volunteer of service certificate.

Volunteering Queensland has now announced that Jim is the recipient of the 2021 Lifetime Contribution to Volunteering Award. In announcing the award it stated: "Jim has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to volunteering, especially in supporting victims of cancer. As a survivor himself, and having lost close family, Jim knows too well the impact cancer can have."

With a commitment spanning over 50 years, Jim is Cancer Council Queensland’s longest-serving volunteer. Since 1970, he has been a driving force behind Cancer Council’s fundraising efforts and its ability to finance research, early detection and cancer support services. Jim, joined by his wife Win, has been a strong advocate for volunteering and has created a tradition of volunteering throughout his family.

Jim has been a volunteer in other organisations and has been a Rotarian for over 60 years. He has been President and Secretary a number of times in the Atherton club and a supporter of the Field Days in the past. He had 100% attendance of Rotary meeting for over 45 years (every meeting a week for that period). His commitment to the principles and objectives of Rotary has been exemplary.

Our District Congratulations go to Jim and Win.
