DGE Martti’s March 2021 newsletter

DGE Martti Kankkunen —

February and March were the training months, and what big months they were, but also, how inspiring.

I’m learning that along with lots of hours of planning, comes lots of opportunities to get to know everyone and to grow myself.

The 19th to the 21st of February saw the District 9560 Leadership team come together in Mackay, for the first time. I felt very happy and motivated in amongst my colleagues. It was a brilliant weekend.

Each weekend in March was taken up with President Elect Leadership Training and Assembly, occurring concurrently in two locations –

 Bundaberg and Townsville

 Cairns and Rockhampton

 Darwin, NT clubs and Timor-Leste

I’d like to say a special “Thank You” to my District Trainer, Rachel Sampson, and also to John Hall, Michael Buckeridge, Adele Hughes, Merewyn Wright, Trevor Hyatt, Ray Fauntleroy and all Area Governors who coordinated the March training sessions.

These Rotarians made training sessions meaningful and memorable and smooth going. I can’t begin to say how much your support means. Together it was our job to develop leadership skills and increase Rotary knowledge so Rotarians in our District can contribute successfully to the achievement of the goals determined by Rotary International and our District Leadership team, and I am certain that we did that.

I’d also like to thank every single President Elect who attended, and the Rotarians who travelled far and wide to learn at Assembly on the Sundays. I congratulate you not only for the fine fellowship that we shared, but also for your strong motivation. That illustrates to me that “Together, we are Stronger” and that this will help us carry out many projects in 2021- 2022 that will make our communities, our country and the world, a better place to live in.

As Shekhar Mehta said in his Introductory speech “Let us Serve to Change Lives” in a myriad of tiny and large ways. I know District 9560 is in good hands with you all by my side. I enjoyed myself, and what more can a DGE ask for.
