THE CENTENARY WATER PROJECT FOR MANATUTO SCHOOLS UPDATE

AG Ray Fauntleroy —

On track for success.

The District received an update from Elsa Grca and the other Manatuto Rotactors, and this was followed up with a report to Ray Fauntleroy from Betty Fatima, a member of Dili-Lafaeke Rotary on Sunday 10th April.

The Rotary Club of Dili-Lafaeke are helping to oversee the project. The Rotarian who is leading this is Preto.

The new bore contractors have clean water now coming through at the rate of 5 Litres every 23 seconds. Ray Fauntleroy says, "They will also drill another hole yet, and I am happy to confirm that they will fully complete their contact within the April 30th 2022 deadline."

As we move forward to the next stage of the DG Partner's Water Project,  the District Finance Officer, Glenn Gough, will transfer more funds into the RC of Dili Lafaek-Manatuto Project account. We will transfer the next $10K USD into this account, less any transfer fees.

Note, this stage also includes the drilling of another Bore. This bore is of a greater diameter, which I requested when over there with DG Martti and Karen Kankkunen, Adele Hughes, and AG Elect Allison Hooper. It also includes the acquisition and transportation of the three water tanks on order from Bacau.

The bore pump for the new bore is the one that I currently have stored in my house in Darwin. This pump, which was funded by the kind donations of Jerry Wood, a Litchfield-Palmerston Rotary friend, has been redirected from another project in Tibar. There was a duplication in the Dominican Sister Orphanage Vegetable Garden project in Tibar, and after our March 2022 Inspection we found that the pump is no longer required there. That project was a separate Global Grant involving another Rotary District.

WE thank Jerry Wood, and Eric Chalmers and Val Wilkie of the Rotary Club of Litchfield-Palmerston for the specs and purchase of the pump. I will ensure rightful recognition is bestowed for this donation. What this also means is that the project funds for a pump at Manatuto, can be used for the final stage of this project, potential small crop irrigation at the Manatuto Technical  School, which offers only 2 streams of vocational study at the moment ( Accounting and Agricultural Production) . I will arrange for the shipment very soon.  Funds released will also facilitate the freight to Dili.

They have also purchased and received the pipes to reticulate the water to both Kaya Rala Secondary school and Manatuto Vocational School. This has only just happened n the last couple of days. In the picture below can see the reinforcement frames as well for the tank stands.
