Rotary Club of Townsville completes another RYDA event

Rotary Club of Townsville —

And that's a wrap!

Another fantastic RYDA event has finished in Townsville. We really hope the participating schools and their Year 11 students enjoyed RYDA and take some important knowledge into the future as they become road users.

A big shout out to all who helped out this week - great Rotary volunteers, facilitators and support from Townsville City Council, Transport and Main Roads Queensland, Queensland Police Service, Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS), Graduate School of Motoring, and Paraplegic Benefit Fund Australia.

RYDA (Youth Driver Awareness) is designed for 16-18 year old students who are approaching that crucial time in their lives where they start to drive independently or are travelling as passengers of one of their peers. It is a series of practical workshops that aim to change the way young people think about road safety. As part of an interactive one-day experience, students experience braking at different speeds, devise travel strategies that will work in the real world and get tips from road safety experts on how to protect themselves, their friends & their family. Perhaps the most powerful moments come from the personal stories of loss & survival. In one session, students watch a powerful & emotional video on the life & tragic death of an 18 year old provisional driver & in another, they sit with a crash survivor & hear first-hand how one poor choice can change a life forever. This RYDA program is a professionally developed Program supported by the Rotary Club of Townsville.
