MACKAY - DUMBELTON CAR PORT PROJECT

PP Kent Lyons —

This project involved providing a carport for vehicles at a residence where there were 3 household members in wheelchairs.

The plight of this family was raised when a Rotarian was contacted and informed that vehicles and wheelchairs were bogging in mud as family members attempted to leave and return from the premises.

Those in the wheelchairs suffer from BPH, a degenerative condition concerning limb and muscle nerves.

The preliminary investigation for this Project began in September, 2019, under the direction of then President - Kent Lyons, and Community Projects Director – Dennis Pott .

A 6m X 6m Car Port Kit was purchased in Jan- Feb 2020 using club funds, however construction was put on hold during COVID; re-commencing in September 2020. Over a period of 4 weekends ( beginning 14 November) the project was completed in 4 stages : 1. Boxing and mesh installed 2. Concrete poured 3. Shed erected 4. Roof put on.

We had a very generous number of 10 Rotarians involved in the project with 110 volunteer hours needed to complete it.
