Looking after kids the bread and butter of Litchfield Palmerston
Read how the Rotary Club of Litchfield Palmerston is the big cheese of school lunches after the Top End club made more than 1,000 sandwiches for the start of the school year.
Litchfield Palmerston Rotary is the big cheese of school lunches after members made, wrapped, stacked, and packed more than 1,000 cheese sandwiches for delivery to eight schools participating in the club's Eat Up Project in collaboration with Eat Up Australia.
As many as one in five children in Australia start school without breakfast and around 15 per cent arrive at school without lunch or the money to buy it at the tuckshop.
Fuelling children with nutritious foods helps support their growth and development, moods, mental health, and improves their ability to concentrate and learn.
Cheese is a great source of calcium, fat, and protein containing vitamins A and B12, zinc, phosphorus, and riboflavin.
Area Govenor Allison Hooper lent a helping hand, and the club gave a special shout out to member Rosin who brought her Yiayia (grandmother) Kathy Kastellorizios along to help.
Like Yiayias everywhere, Kathy is happiest when she's feeding others!
Great work Litchfield Palmerston for helping kids have a better day at school and doing good in our world!
