The Rotary Club of Blackwater celebrates its 50th birthday

Chris Rayment —

Blackwater Rotary Club members celebrated 50 years of Rotary in their township on Saturday, 17th July and Sunday, 18th July 2021.

The members and our Rotary families gathered to have a night of celebrations at the Aeroplane Hanger at Bottle Tree Camp some 40klms outside Blackwater. It was a fabulous night of tales of youthful frivolity. Proud and honoured past memories of service above self and interaction with our local community over many memorable years. Our Club has fluctuated in membership but our interaction and involvement with youth, welfare and fellowship has made a strong foundation.

The 50th Anniversary on Sunday in the Park with the train had many magic moments with train rides, a sausage sizzle, novelty 50th patty cakes and drinks - all free of charge!

The train has been a great local project. We must thank our past Rotarians and their partners for establishing and maintaining the rail. We had some very talented people painting perfect Disney images on the carriages and highlighting the Rotary wheel on the engine nose. This was a great atmosphere on a perfect day to celebrate 50 years of Rotary within the Blackwater Community.

To finish our celebrations off this week District Governor Martti and wife Karen Kankkunen visited our fortnightly meeting on Wednesday night at 6.30pm in the Rotary Park shed. On this night we inducted and welcomed 2 additional members, Scott Harvey and Susan Engwicht. A special Birthday 50th train cake was cut and enjoyed by all. If you would like to visit our Club please phone 0498346920 or text 0499757429. We would love to hear from you.
