Introducing conference guest speaker David Elliott OAM
One of the goals set by DG John and his committee for our Share the Magic of Rotary conference is to increase understanding of rural communities, their industries, attributes and challenges; enter David Elliott.
David Elliott OAM is a fourth-generation grazier from Winton, Queensland who, with his wife Judy, founded the not-for-profit Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum in 2002. He is currently Executive Chairman of Australian Age of Dinosaurs Ltd.
In 1999 David happened across some dinosaur bones in one of his paddocks at Belmont Station, north-east of Winton while mustering sheep.
Hear about how this discovery led to a national interest in Australian palaeo-tourism, science and research, and how further fossil discoveries have enabled the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum to become a leading driver of tourism in western Queensland.
Based on a combination of passion and simple principles, David’s practical approach toward turning a unique local resource into a world-relevant tourism product is something that can be embraced by virtually anyone anywhere.
