A note from Adele Hughes from her..My Rotary District Governor Journey

Adele Hughes —

In the news! It’s been six years since the World Health Organization’s South-East Asia Region, which includes India, was certified polio-free. India’s polio infrastructure keeps the country polio-free by aiming to immunize more than 174 million children annually, despite a lack of roads, mobile populations, and some parents' hesitance to vaccinate. JSTOR Daily reported on Rotary and its partners’ roles in the National Immunization Day there in January. The Gates Foundation, one of Rotary’s partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI), wrote about how we can keep making progress on polio eradication during the COVID-19 pandemic. Healio also reported on the GPEI’s response to COVID-19 in countries affected by polio. In an opinion piece, Rotarian Sid Salter draws parallels between the world’s response to the historic polio epidemic and the current COVID-19 pandemic.
