Rotary Adventures in Citizenship Update

David Manttan —

Rotary Adventures in Citizenship (RAIC) has been and continues to be impacted by COVID 19 Restrictions in 2020 and 2021.

In 2020 the two young women from Mackay selected to attend Budget Week in the Australian Parliament during May 2020 were unable to attend the program due to the “lock down”. Thanks to the three Mackay Rotary Clubs and seven Gladstone Rotary Clubs who had committed to funding the two students.

The 2021 RAIC is also a victim of COVID 19 with the Parliamentary Education Office cancelling the 2021 program.

The following is from the RAIC Website:

Unfortunately, RAIC 2021, has been cancelled because of COVID-19.

The Rotary Clubs of Canberra and Woden and the Parliamentary Education Office have realised we cannot deliver this unique program in the present COVID-19 environment.

An integral aspect of RAIC is the attendance of Year 11 students in Canberra for the week-long program where they are immersed behind the scenes in Parliament House.

Previous delegates have always stated that one of the highlights of the program is the fact that they meet and make friends with young people from all over Australia.

We are disappointed that we cannot provide the RAIC program for Year 11 students in 2021. But, we are hoping to deliver the RAIC program next in 2022.

As things change, we will provide updates on our Facebook page and on this website during 2021.
