Rotary Club of Gladstone Midday plants 100 Trees for 100 Years of Rotary in Australia

Gail Sellers —

In March this year, the Rotary Club of Gladstone Midday commenced a $12,000 tree planting project, completed over a club-camping weekend in the Boyne Valley, and happily reports the project is flourishing!

The original concept plan was commissioned with Derek Bacon of Alderson & Associates Landscape Architects and coordinated by club member Keith Geljon. The trees were planted on the Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail at the Golembiel Camping Grounds.

Around 110 natives took root including hoop pines, bottle brush, tuckeroo, figs, and Burdekin plums.

In April, Midday members Rod Kamholtz and Debbie Ward inspected the tree planting and were happy to report that all trees were  alive and growing beautifully.

EXTRA good news is that the Midday Club has been successful in obtaining a $9,000 grant to plant more trees in the Boyne Valley as part of Planting Trees for the Queen's Jubilee. These extra 60 trees will be planted in the township of Builyan at the Start of the Boyne Burnett Inland Rail Trail.

Congratulations to the Gladstone green thumbs!
